With all the options that come with the new templates from blogger, I've stopped posting 3 versions of the background. I will now be posting the background that doesn't include any white wrapper. So you can adjust the width of your blog to whatever you would like. The installation for the backgrounds is still the same. Grab the code and paste it into an HTML widget.

Amanda Laing is based out of Weber County in Northern Utah. And her pricing is great, so if you need family pics she's a great choice.

I helped her makeover her blog and made her a custom logo. She said she loves birds, nests, and pearls and this is the result.

I Dig Dinos Free background

Yes, this background is not something I'd usually make. I made it for one of my nephews who has a blog/journal that he likes to write in.

He is a pretty smart boy and wants to be a paleontologist when he grows up. He wrote an essay on dinosaurs in his kindergarten class and then was asked to read it front of his whole school. He pretty much knows every dinosaur, what they eat, how big they are, and so on. So I told my sis-in-law I'd make him a dinosaur background.

I hope someone else out there can enjoy it too!

Fall Backgrounds

First of all, I'd like to apologize for the lack of posts. There are a number of things going on right now in our family that have prevented me from spending a lot of time making free blog backgrounds and from taking more custom orders. Moving, settling in, school starting, stomach virus, blah, blah, blah. You know how it goes.

The biggest reason for the lack of posting happens to be a really cute baby by day and a cranky uncomfortable baby by night. Our 10 month old son was diagnosed with silent reflux (GERD) a few months ago. We've been trying to adjust medications, formulas, and crib mattresses in an effort to help him feel better. He pretty much has heartburn. ALL. THE. TIME. He's gotten better but I'm still averaging 4-5 hours of intermittent sleep a night. Blog design has been put on the back burner.

I'm trying to get going again. As always. if there are any request for themes, colors, or patterns you would like to see let me know!

But here are a few Fall colored backgrounds with a subtle horizontal stripe pattern.

Settling In

Move update

We've made it back to Utah. I have Internet. My oldest is in school. My husband works 9 hour days again. Sounds like life is back to normal Alas, it is not. Now, if only all of my furniture and belongings would make their way here too, then maybe life really could get back to normal.
Once life does settle down, I'll hopefully be able to take custom orders and make more freebies again.

But for now I get to eat dinner sitting on a folding chair at a card table. I get to sleep on an air-mattress and enjoy the joys of having a total of 15 toys for my kids to play with. That's my life until the moving truck finally makes its way from Texas.

Life has been a little crazy for us. For some reason I was under the delusion that having my 6 year old home would make my life easier. That my 6 year old and 3 year old would happily play together all day long. Ha! Was I crazy for thinking that or what? I've been busy playing referee most of the day and taking care of a 6 month old when I'm not doing that.

Also we're getting ready to move. We decided that the boys and I would fly back to Utah a month early. So that means I'm packing and cleaning a month early too. I'm excited to move closer to family and for my husband to be done with school.

What does any of this mean to you? I won't be doing any custom designs for a bit. And I probably won't be posting a lot the months of July and August. If this changes I'll let you know!

But for now I'll keep posting backgrounds like these...

Sorry for the lack of posts. My 6 month old had an ear infection last week. He's better now but he has yet to sleep through the night again. Basically I'm sleep deprived, ornery, and lacking the energy to do anything. I'll stop whining now.

Vacation

I'm going to take the next couple of weeks off from custom orders. My husband is on break between semesters and I feel like I haven't seen him in eons. I've got things to catch up on around the house. My husband made a honey-do list where half of the items are things I should have taken care of already. Nothing says quality time together like organizing the garage.

I also want to apologize for my lack of posts. My main computer is having some technical issues that I've had to work on. It likes to shut down on me with the blue screen of death randomly through out the day. Hopefully it will be fixed soon!

I'm the featured Blog Designer over at Makin' Cute Blogs this month. So that's exciting. Okay, it's more exciting for me than for you.

Basically it means I'm writing tutorials (that I've been meaning to write) that will be featured over on her blog as well as found in the tutorials section here.

Portfolio Post: SHEnanigans

My good old friend Laura at Sugar Grenade is basically one of the most awesome people ever. She and Megan, another friend from college, came up with the grand idea of Silly Girls United.

The basic idea is that various groups of girls from all over the country get together and be silly. By that I mean they play dress up and then take pictures of themselves doing it. Each month a photo shoot theme is chosen. It's a bunch of fun girls being girls and having a fun time! So that was a very redundant sentence....

Well Laura is super busy with school and asked for my help in updating the SHEnanigans blog. So here it is! You can go check out the live blog and the facebook page to see more of what it's all about! Anyone can join in the fun.

I received a request from Shelby, a "reader" of Babbling Brooke Designs. She asked if I would make make a grey scalloped background like the ones I posted in March.

I really do fill requests when you make them.

She also requested that I make backgrounds from the designs in my header. Those will be coming in the next few days.

Since blogger has added the newer template features. You can now edit your templates much more easily. With this feature you can change the coloring and width of your inner wrap (the white part where your text shows up) without even touching the HTML of your blog. Which is awesome! But it makes some of the backgrounds look a little off when you've got 2 inner wrappers. So I've started making backgrounds without any wrapper in the middle. Like this...

See how there's no white inner wrap? So you can adjust the look of your blog much more easily.

I'm going to go back through the backgrounds and try to make more "plain backgrounds" over the next little bit. If there is a particular background you are using that you would like to have updated quickly let me know. I can fix it in a jiffy.

I won't be able to do every single background. But I'll sure try!

Jo is one of my great friends from junior high. That's so weird to me that we've known each other for 15 or so years. Jo has always been super artistic. For the last few years she's been making amazingly cute cupcakes and cakes. If only we lived closer. I would so volunteer to be her taste-tester.

I just helped her makeover her blog. Which was a ton of fun! She wanted something colorful and...well... happy!

I made her a custom slide show to showcase the pictures of her creations. I also made a custom image menu with various baking elements.

Inspiration and some scallop patterned backgrounds

Laura from sugar-grenade made a couple of papers using this scalloped pattern. In fact this pattern is currently her blog's background.

I loved it so much that I made my own pattern so I could more easily recolor it. So these backgrounds are inspired by Laura's designs and made by me.

I limited the colors to 4 this time. I'm sure I'll make a few more down the road.

Over 6 years ago I met and became friends with one awesome Scottish gal named Laura. She happens to be one of my favorite people in the world and its not just because I love Scottish accents. She's quirky, cute, and pretty darn awesome. No really, I have been in awe of her for a long time which is where the word awesome even comes from.

She's also very very creative. Just take a look at her photography website or her personal blog. A few months ago she e-mailed me some of the digital scrapbook designs she had been working on as she went to school to become a graphic designer. She's been generous enough to let me use them to make blog backgrounds.

We had a great Christmas and enjoyed time with both my parents and my husband's parents. I hope that all of you had a wonderful Holiday season!

I'll try and be a bit more consistent in posting new backgrounds. Now that the holidays are over, visiting family is gone, the Christmas decorations are back in their boxes, and my house is in some semblance of order, I finally feel like I can work on designing again without feeling totally guilty.

He's here. We're both doing well. Now if the boy would just figure out how his new little body worked, we'd be peachy! Is it too much to ask that it NOT take an hour to burp him?

"For Easton" Free Blog Background

It is clearly obvious that I love Summer Driggs scrapbooking designs. I use them all the time! She's one amazing woman. Every once in awhile she uses her "popularity" as a designer to help others. Recently she posted about a family whose son, Easton, was born with a number of complications which require around the clock care. To add to their heartache and stress, 11 weeks after Easton was born their 3 year old son drowned.

The family has a number of medical bills and are applying for funding for a nurse to care for their son in home. But that funding, if they are able toget it, won't be available for another month.

Summer has kindly made a scrapbook kit for Easton. I used it to make the free background for today. She is also accepting donations for the family through her website. So if you want to learn more about this sweet little family and want to help, please head over to Summertime Designs.

Witchy Woman Free Blog Background

Sorry I haven't posted anything for a week! I've been putting all my design time into creating a blog design for Upix Photography. Her header features a photgraphy slideshow which was fun to figure out all the scripting and HTML. Anyways if you're in the Northern Utah area, she does some cute stuff.

Now that that is done I can get back to making more free blog backgrounds.

Here's a Halloween background. I can't help but hear the song "Witchy Woman" by the Eagles, go through my head constantly during Halloween. I think it just might have something to do with my Dad playing it during Halloween when I was a child. So in honor of that little memory I named this blog background "witchy woman". The little witch girl is from the Scrapping Sisters website. I seriously love their little doodle kids!

What I've been up to

I've made a deal with the husband that I won't work on blog stuff until the LAST box in unpacked. Hopefully that will happen today so I'll have new backgrounds starting Monday.

Know that I've tried my best to get back to making blog backgrounds. However a series of unfortunate events seemed to happen all at once. Really.

So we had the move from H-E double hockey sticks. No seriously I would no wish this upon my worst enemy.  No move is perfect and I never expected it to be. But you know Murphy's Law? That little thing that says, "anything that can go wrong will go wrong." Yeah well it totally kicked us none too gently in the pants.

The long and short of it.

My husband works FOR the US Air Force as a CIVILIAN engineer.  So there are no guns or foreign countries for us. Because the move was for work/school the Air Force paid for it. Because it was the Air Force there was a whole lot of paperwork and bureaucratic stuff to deal with.

The movers in Utah were morons. There were a number of things that they did that I'm not really happy about from mislabeling boxes to leaving half of my belongings unpacked because they needed to get off work early to go to concert. Really professional attitude here. Oh then they came back the following Monday and forgot all the paper work.  So if you're in northern Utah DO NOT ever use Transco movers EVER.

Well we got to Texas safe and sound only to find out that the movers (different company than Utah) had our stuff but would not be able to deliver it until a week after it was supposed to be dropped off.  This is where the bureaucracy of working for the government really got us.

So we lived in our house for a week sleeping on air mattresses, eating frozen pre-made dinners, and watching a mini DVD player. Oh and can I just say Air Mattresses and Pregnancy do not mix. When our bed finally made it here I literally laid on it with tears in my eyes.

Ahh the joys of moving. We're still packing a few things and figuring out where to put stuff. But at least that stuff is finally here!

So that's what I've been up to the few weeks.  Yep it's an exciting life I live.  Hopefully I can get going on blog backgrounds until Baby Boy #3 gets here after Thanksgiving. Have a wonderful day!

We just found out that baby #3 is a boy. Much like his 2 older brothers, he wasn't shy about showing it either. I will, however, spare you that ultrasound picture.

All of my boys are excited, especially Daddy. For some reason he's really afraid of girls. I mean come on! Girls can't be that scary or he wouldn't have married me. Frankly, I'm excited too. I get boys. They're dirty and sticky and love anything with wheels. That and I don't have to spend money on any new baby items that have to be gender specific like baby clothes.
So in honor of our little one being a little GUY, here's a "boyish" background.

Wow! I have no legitimate excuse for not posting any backgrounds. No, really. I've just been busy with the usual summer stuff. You know I've just been busy running through sprinklers, doing swimming lessons and some yard work, and working on a few remodeling projects. The project that wasn't

I'm going to call my little break last week, "the project that wasn't."

So apparently oral herpes, as a virus, hits my husband's side of the family quite hard. Me, I don't know if I've ever had a cold sore a day in my life. Anyways, my poor 2 year old was diagnosed with oral herpes last week and was absolutely miserable. He had a wonderfully high fever. He also had blisters and sores all over his mouth which made it absolute misery getting him to eat anything.

So between the sick child and my own bouts of morning sickness it's been a wonderful week!

Did I get anything done? Not really. Besides managing to bathe daily, I do not have a lot to show for my week off. In fact I need to take a few more days to collect myself before I get back to posting free blog stuff.

But I hope you are all having a wonderful week!
